    “Introduced in the mid-1850s, this piano-box style of buggy became the most popular vehicle in America and used until after World War I. The modest cost of $25 to $50 for a new model made it easy for most people to afford such a carriage.”

    “This carriage was used for public transportation. The configuration of bench seats, running the length of the carriage, identifies this vehicle as a wagonette. Note the finely-executed fanciful decoration of this carriage. The side curtains were closed during inclement weather.”
