“The Lake Shore Stone Company village, Stonehaven, housed quarry workers from Italy, Luxembourg, Austria. Married employees lived in small, 15 by 24 foot houses built on stilts. Two barracks, known as the Italian House and Austrian House, sheltered bachelors. Some workers lived in shacks they built for themselves.”
