“This is the original entryway into the pueblo. This long corridor was a roofed hallway leading to the Central Plaza, the center of the site. During the 13th and 14th centuries, Besh-Ba-Gowah served as a redistributional center for goods such as shell and turquoise jewelry, painted pottery, and ceremonial activities. To protect these goods, control of access into the site was important.”
